— As Team Ibaa Emerges Winner Of Emolga Peace and Unity Football Tournament Season 3.
Speaking at the finals and closing ceremony of the 2023 edition of the Emohua Local Government Peace and Unity Football Tournament, tagged Wike Peace Cup, held at Ojims College Field in Rumuji town on Saturday, Dr. Lloyd said the local government will encourage some of the best talents discovered during the football tournament to go for trials in professional football clubs within Nigeria.
“We will encourage those of you who are good from this tournament to go for trials; some of you may become super-eagles players in the future.”
He noted that the annual football tournament was conceived to promote peace and unity among the youths across Emohua local government area while commending the youths of the area for embracing peace and supporting his administration’s war against crime and criminality for the overall development of the area.
The Emohua Local Government Peace and Unity Football Tournament is an annual football tournament introduced and sponsored by Dr. Chidi Lloyd to celebrate the prevalent peace, security, and development witnessed across Emohua LGA under his watch.
The first edition of the tournament held in 2021 was won by the Ward 6 team (Ibaa), while the second edition held in 2022 was won by the Ward 10 team (Omudioga/Akpabu & Itu).
The finals of the 2023 edition (season 3), which were between the Ward 6 team and the former defending champions, the Ward 10 team, ended in favor of the Ward 6 (Ibaa) team, who defeated their Ward 10 opponent in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw in the full 90 minutes of play and extra time.
The final match, which saw the emergence of the former defending champions, the Ward 10 team in 2nd place, witnessed a large crowd of football lovers and supporters of the finalists.
The closing ceremony featured the presentation of the star prize, trophy, and medals to the victorious Ibaa team, the winners of the maiden edition of the tournament, as the current defending champions, amid wide jubilation.
The 2nd and 3rd place teams, Ward 10 and Ward 9, respectively, also received their medals and prizes.
Other prizes won include the best player, best goalkeeper, and highest goal scorer.
Secretary to Emohua Local Government, Chief Vincent Chukwu, and other principal officers of the council accompanied the council chairman to the final and closing ceremonies.
